Fika

Weiying and Barbara's families came over for some fika (afternoon tea) today. Even though the boys aged about 3.5yr and 1.5yr don't really play together yet, it is nice to see them playing around together.  Little Ruyi looks really alert and kind for 3.5month, she was constantly looking around in her daddy's arms and nearly not fuss at all.  Ian continued being rather perked up after they left, so since he aren't really affected by a lack of afternoon nap, i.e. being ultra annoying, we thought it is better to stretch him till about 7pm, then he can sleep till the next morning.  And he did. By the time it passed 6pm, he is like the competitor rabbit in energizer advertisement slowly winding up.  Thomas also made a killer cheese pie, which we could sit and enjoy in this very long and quiet evening :)

Little sunshine at 18months

Our boy wakes up earlier than a regular school day, around 6 in the morning.  And for some reason, even though the weather wasn't too great, he is rather cheery.  He is exactly 1.5 year old today.  It was a day of many activities since his parents finally gotten some energy.  There was shopping in the morning, window cleaning and hair cutting in the afternoon and a little party in the evening.  For lunch, Thomas finally got to eat his smörgåstårta, and dinner there was spicy chicken curry, fried beehoon mee and some very nice company.  Thomas even baked his boy a banana cake, and at 18months, he is more in awe with tucking in at the cake than blowing out the candle.

Fredagsmys

The boy walked over to our room with his pillow and bolster, I found it rather adorable and thought he wanted to sleep over. After some tries to climb, he waved me goodbye and walk with his dad back to his room. He then really tried to sleep, and was tossing for quite a while before he fell asleep. Every evening, we need to have this lights out moment for some 30mins or longer, show him netto (supermarket) was closed, before he accepts. One of those occasions where we can actually sit down for a movie, and we caught real steel tonight and I thought that was pretty good.

Ducks

When we picked Ian up from the day care, they were outside playing. As expected, Ian was in the swing, instead of digging in the sand. Seeing the children teacher ratio, that must be the safest activity.  We also got on the see-saw and have a little family time. Thomas vs me and Ian.  After getting home for a little while, we took him to Lomma to see ducks as the weather seems rather nice.  It was then followed by dinner at a chinese restaurant which was horribly salty. Whatever the case, that will be the last time.  I don't think I have ever returned a dish yet, this must be the first.

No more thumps

After 2 very disturbed sleep nights, with the baby dropping at least 3 times from his bed, daddy finally engineered a solution with a recycled tube from meitong, to ensure no more falling off the bed.  At times, there is not even a cry, he basically fall off and continued sleeping.  Only the first night, he remained on his bed the whole night.  Of course, there is either cushion of thermal rest underneath.

There will certainly be a thump

The frame of the crib has been removed and he refused to have anyone leaning or lying on his bed.  With the way he sleep, he is likely to be found on the floor next morning.  Let's see.

New record

3 days in a row without any tears at drop-off and today Roya isn't even there in the morning.  When we picked him in the evening, he was the only kid there with 2 teachers and he was sitting on one of them who was teaching him "Tack". According to the teachers, Ian understand quite a bit and his body language is quite good.  Though he doesn't speak much, his vocabulary is rather unique, with words such as Bubble, Turtle, Duck, 下雪 (snowing).  Other common words will be mama, papa, hoppa (hop), apa (monkey) and sounds of animals like moo, woof, meow, baa. That's probably all the words we hear from him.  Besides not really fond of being outdoors, (always whine if they get him out for first 5-10 mins)  like being put in the sand or snow, he normally resigns to it after a while, and will dig in them.  He is also particular, that we already know as if he sees a grain of rice on his finger, he will look at it and then start screaming.  Just like a virgo, he needs stuff to be in order.  The teacher put a huge cushion in the boat as she was afraid he might fall climbing around, but he insisted she take it out as it should not be there.  He also refused to have a tabard over him for example, and will just wail if he has to have paint over his hands.  Again after some adjusting, he will be happily sponging the paint on the paper.  He is also getting rather opinionated, and want things his ways such as insisting on wearing wellies to dagis instead of his winter boots. So that's our boy with 8 days to being 1.5 year.

Destructor

We can never understand how he manages to break stuff that will be hard for us to try to break it. First he broke the handle off the Vicks humidifier, now my bike reflector.

Roya

He did not cry when dropped off this morning at the dagis again, and once again it was Roya who carried him from me.  This is the third time since October that it was cry free.

Skolmaten

is an android application that allows one to follow the menu school serves at lunch on a weekly basis.  Just before bed yesterday, I was commenting to Thomas how bad the menu was that I was not at all appetize at the look of it and how miserable I would be if that was my menu.  This evening when we picked Ian up, the childcare teacher told us that Ian was the only kid that has lunch today, all other children rejected the "Indisk vegetable stew with corn", that he treated food like food, never at all bother him.  Seriously, what is the chef or planner thinking, to serve up such a dish!  Fortunately, our son loves food generally and has very varied taste buds due to our generally unpredictable meals moods.

Short workout

video
I have always wonder if it is possible to take the baby on the backpack while cycling, i.e. if I would be leaning too much forward, and as a result he isn't comfortable since my bike is not the city kind.  Since Thomas is going for a short run, I thought we try this out.  It is quite alright other than my lack of fitness, and it being extremely windy.  Thomas was running while filming this.  It was actually very possible to exercise together, since even though I m on the bike, I could only go the speed of his run.  In fact, I cannot believe I did not manage up the slope. I just blame it on the malfunction of the bike gear which fail to switch to 1 at the most crucial stage, then it's too late after.

Ru Yi Oil

Funny boy, he came to us with a bottle of Ru Yi oil and indicate for us to apply.  He felt that he was sick and need some sort of medication.  He has been coughing a lot of late, and today the dagis informed that he seems to have caught a cold and did not have so much food.  Just when I was thinking this morning or recently that we have not V.A.B. a single day since we were back from Singapore. When we came home, he seems hungry, and ate up a good portion of rice, mushrooms, eggs and brocolli soup. He also felt warmer than usual, and hardly run around, and just lie with his dad in front of the TV.

Swimming again

I took Ian swimming again since his dad went running.  I gave the whole process a good thought through, and he did not turned purple today.  That process includes dressing him half way before the shower instead of putting on a wet costume though him, drying him in the sauna area and me just having a rinse off only, so still it is not optimal as I needed to shower at home.

Purple

Ian's hair looked like it has been gel up when we picked him from dagis. For a moment, I really wonder if they have been playing dressing up of some sorts.  I took a sniff, and asked the teacher what's with his hair.  She happily told me that after lunch, my boy put the whole bowl over his head. Nice, why didn't they try to give it a good clean???
video
I decide to bring him for a swim after some months of absense. Thomas wasn't really keen but was convinced to tag along to just watch.  He started off a bit cautious, but quickly enjoyed it.  Good that all this while of absence seems to not have an effect.  There's even a play area in Burlövsbadet with little slides. Looking at him play, is a reminder of how quickly and much he has grown. I have been really absent minded trying to make the process as smooth as possible, forgetting coins, keys, as a result it probably adds to one factors of Ian turning purple besides too long playing in the water.  After dressing him, I pass him to his dad at the cafe, and quickly went for 10 laps.

Catalyst

Thomas and I fever both down with the famous winter bug.  For me, it is like the 2nd time this winter. Fever, vomit and runs. Poor Ian could not understand why we just lie there whole day, keep trying to pull me up, and when I don't, he will get so upset and really cry, even sitting down next to me and whine.  His effect of this majsjuka seems so mild compared to us.  On thursday, we just notice he did not have his normal appetite, and shit a couple of times in the evening. On friday, dagis says he did not eat much.  They did not even seems to think he has stomach upset.  I asked if he shits more than once, and mentioned he shits a couple of times the last evening, then only was I informed there is a couple of kids down with the winterbug. And we basically wakes up this morning with it, and the weekend is gone.  The boy is a catalyst to our recent sickness, first the vacation, now the weekend.  Gosh, when will this be over?

No cry

Ian did not cry when dropped off!!!!  2nd time in almost 5 months. He  into Roya's arms when she signal, though he did sulk a little. Let's see how many days it last.
